How To Do A Headstand

Free Mini-Course

Welcome to Headstands 101

Disclaimer:
Please do not attempt a headstand if you have a back, neck or head injury, high blood pressure, glaucoma or any other eye condition. Do not attempt with children under 5 years old. Some women prefer to avoid inversions during menstruation. (They have never bothered me though.)

Part 1: Introduction

This welcome video introduces the instructor, let's you know what to expect from this free course, and offers advice for those training in tight living quarters.

Part 2: Warm Up

This warm-up video offers several strength and conditioning exercises that will prepare you for a safe headstand practice. Please treat these exercises as pre-requisites to your headstand training, and be sure you can execute them all comfortably before getting yourself upside down.

Part 3: Tripod Headstand & Bound Headstand

This section covers the technique behind entering a tripod headstand, and then a bound headstand. I also go over an exit strategy to bring you down safely in the event that you lose your balance unexpectedly. There are several entrance methods discussed in this video, including one that utilizes a prop-assist for those struggling with flexibility.

Part 4: *Bonus Level* Press Headstand

You've reached the bonus section! Please only experiment with this if you can execute all the previous techniques with ease. Strength and body awareness are important components of a press headstand, and you shouldn't approach this section until you're ready. I do several demos away from the wall in this video so that you can see my actions more clearly. This is for demonstration purposes only, and students should continue to use the wall for this activity.

Part 5: Review + Final Words

That was a lot of information, I know! But don't get overwhelmed. Let's review the training plan so you know where to start. 🙂 And when you're ready to take it to the next level, I'll be waiting.
